World Glaucoma Week

Posted March 29, 2025 by Dr. Ezinne Ihekweaba

Greetings, NOA RIVERS!

I want to heartily welcome you to World Glaucoma Week, 2025!.

Starting from the 9th to the 15th of March, this annual event serves to educate people all over the world about GLAUCOMA, which is the second leading cause of blindness globally.

This initiative of the World Glaucoma Association is meant to help people understand Glaucoma causes, symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options.

It also highlights the importance of early detection and urges everyone to get screened annually by going for regular comprehensive eye exams.

In this week, communities around the world raise awareness by hosting educational workshops, glaucoma screening events, social media campaigns, sports events, and many other activities.

Here in Port Harcourt, we have chosen Shoprite as our event center for this year, and the theme is "SEE YOUR FUTURE CLEARLY."

My personal note and plea to you as an optometrist/intern in Rivers State is that you oblige us with your time and your powerful presence and throw your clinic doors open, as this event usually sees a huge influx of patients into ALL eye clinics, including ophthalmology.

It is our opportunity for advocacy in this profession we love and enjoy.

We have decided that all clinics in Rivers State are mandated to support this event with a token of N15,000.

The first 20 clinics to support this social civic responsibility will have our beautiful, attractive, NOA-approved advertisement banner installed proudly in front of their clinic premises on or before the 8th of March. They will also receive a 2-page insightful free course on "5 steps to enjoying continuous flow of patient traffic in your practice."

Finally, we will present a classy, crystal appreciation plaque to clinics and sponsors who supported with at least N100,000.

HURRY!

Don't be left out. Join us in the fight to prevent blindness and See Your Future, Clearly!.

Cheers and God bless.
